Let’s be serious for a moment. Signing up to be a member of a web site is not an easy decision. The benefits are often very limited and the side effects can range from annoying if you start getting spammed to downright destructive if your computer becomes exposed to viruses. And so when we ask you to become a registered member of Tom Nob, you have every right to ask “What are you going to do with my information?” and “What’s in it for me?”
When you sign-up to be a member on Tom Nob, the only information we require is a user name of your choosing, a valid email address, and a password that you provide. The reason we ask for your email address is so that we can communicate you from time to time and so that you can take advantage of the features which are described in The Privileges of Membership – Part II. We do not sell or distribute your email to any other entity.
Once you have completed the registration process, you will have full access to all the functionality on Tom Nob including:
Rate an Item
Whenever you are a page for a specific item on Tom Nob, you will see the Add Rating button. If you are already signed in to the site, you can click on this button and rate the item. Here at Tom Nob we use a 5-bell rating system with one bell being your lowest score and five being your highest.
Click on the bell which best reflects your score of the item and you will see the appropriate number of bells filled in. Once you are done, click on Back and you will return to the product page. If you want to change your score for that item at any time in the future, click on the Add Rating button again and then the bell which better reflects your score.
Writing Reviews
Similar to submitting ratings, only Tom Nob members who are signed in on the site are able to write reviews for items included on Tom Nob. Just below the Add Rating button you will see the Write a Review button. Click on this button and you will see the review page.
Once you are done, click on Submit and your review and the humor styles you selected will be added to the product page. Click on Back to return to the product page.
Create Your Own Wish List
Members who want to remember an item for future reference can add it to a wish list. If you are on a product page, click on the Add to Wish List button and it will automatically be added to your own unique Wish List. You can access and modify your Wish List by clicking on My Account at the top of the page. Other users will also be able to view you Wish List by clicking on your avatar and viewing your profile. Create Your Own Favorite List
In addition to creating a Wish List, members can also create a Favorite List for your own reference or for other users to view. If you are on a product page, click on the Add to Favorite List button and it will automatically be added to your own unique Favorite List. You can access and modify your Favorite List by clicking on My Account at the top of the page. Other users will also be able to view you Wish List by clicking on your avatar and viewing your profile. Create Your Own Lists
In addition to a Wish List and a Favorite List, members can also create their own lists and add items to it. Members can also add items to a list created by another member but only the original creator of the list can edit the list. If you are on a product page, click on the Add to New List button and you will see a page that will give you the option of adding the item to an existing list or creating a new list. If you click on Create New List you will see this page:
Type the title of your list in the top box and then a brief description of the items that will be included in this new list and click on Submit. The item will automatically be added to this list. You can access and modify any lists you have created by clicking on My Account at the top of the page. Other users will also be able to view the lists you have created by clicking on your avatar and viewing your profile. You can read more about this at The Privileges of Membership – Part II.
