In The Privileges of Membership – Part II, we explore the ways that Tom Nob allows you to share your preferences and your sense of humor with other users on the site and, at the same time, for you to learn more about the preferences and sense of humors of other members. Why would I want to do that?, we hear you ask, and it is a fair question. However, we are going to answer your question by asking you a question: How many times have you watched a “comedy” and then thought to yourself: 'There’s an hour of my life I’ll never get back.' While we employ quality control measures to avoid this happening to a Tom Nob user, the simple truth is that not everyone enjoys the same humor in the same way. The concept of Friends on Tom Nob is to identify those members who can help you find the humor you will appreciate the most.
The most direct way to identifying potential friends is to click on the user name or avatar of another member who has submitted a rating or review for an item that is similar to your own assessment.
Once you click on the user name or avatar, you will be viewing that member’s profile. If after reviewing their profile and the reviews they have submitted you decide you want to “follow” that member, click on the Add as Friend button and you will see the message that the friend request has been sent. Please note that a Friend connection can only be established if both members agree.
A member who has received a Friend request will see a message the next time they click on the Friends menu tab or view the My Friends section of their profile.
By clicking on the friend request message, the member will then have option to approve the friend request or to deny it.
Once the other member approves your friend request, you will need to make sure that the Send Me New Reviews From My Friends box is checked on your profile.
Once these steps have been completed, you will receive an email notifying you every time one of your friends submits a review to Tom Nob. By clicking on the link in the email you will go directly to the review and you will be able to decide if this is something you would enjoy as well.
